As I trained as a psychotherapist, I spent one year in a placement in Castlerea ( Roscommon women ‘s network) where I helped women who experienced a great deal of domestic violence at every level( physical, sexual and psychological).
As a qualified counsellor, I worked for eight years as one of the first therapists in the Dancing Soul in Pearse Street and in Monksland. I gained a lot of enriching experiences from my clients during those years ,and I sharpened my counselling skills while working with them. I am genuinely interested in delving in the depths of human nature ,and I like sharing my learning experiences with my clients .
First and foremost, I aim to provide a calm and a safe environment where the client can embark on a journey of self-discovery .
I am aware it is not easy for clients to come for the first time in an unknown territory, so I try my best to make them feel at ease. It is their space to explore , grow and meet the self in a non – judgmental environment.
I am not there to “fix “my clients, as I believe they possess deep down the tools to find ways to heal the inner self, hence I am only there to guide them in their journeys, and as a result, help them unearth what was buried within them. Too many lost their powers, their voices via trauma and so on, therefore I help my clients regain their voice and their inner power via various approaches such as art therapy, the psychodynamic approach and also using cbt as a tool. I put a lot of emphasis on helping my clients see the value of building resilience in their lives, a key quality that will help them navigate through the turmoil of their lives.
I resonate also with Carl Rogers‘ words:
“it is the client who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial ,what experiences have been deeply buried.”
Finally, I will end my introduction with the words of Carl Jung:
“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate”.
