Approach to Therapy

Geraldine’s approach to psychotherapy is integrative. She incorporates the theoretical approaches of a number of schools of psychotherapy such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-centred Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Solution Focused Therapy which then enables her to find a way that best meets the needs of each individual client.

Geraldine is particularly influenced by a person-centred approach and often draws upon her experiences of Existential Psychotherapy and Attachment theories in her practice.

Since 2017 Geraldine has specialised in perinatal mental health. She has gained extensive experience in this area through her role as lead perinatal therapist attached to the HSE Maternity Services West.

Working with woman, men and families, using evidence-based interventions to alleviate the psychological distress that can be associated with, pregnancy, prenatal & postnatal challenges, loss and to those who are navigating fertility treatments.

Relational value is one of the most basic needs humans require to initiate healing & change. Many people struggle with the lack of that basic need of being valued. I will work with you to develop a therapeutic relationship in which you feel valued and heard.

Finding a safe and comforting place to talk about all the emotions that come with life can be tremendously beneficial. The beauty of the therapeutic relationship is that it allows the freedom to be able to explore anything without fear or repercussions, which isn’t always the case in everyday life.

If you would like to discuss how therapy works, and if it might benefit you, please make contact.

Appointments are available from Mondays to Thursdays. To make an appointment you can contact Geraldine at 085 1683491 or message her via the message box at the top of this page.
