Maria O’Callaghan MIACP, M.A. Pluralistic Counselling & Psychotherapy, PGDip (RSCN)
Hi, my name is Maria O’Callaghan. I am an accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I hold a Masters in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Professional Diploma in Holistic Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Post Graduate Diploma in Sick Children’s Nursing. I also hold a Professional Certificate in the Art of Group Facilitation. I have completed the HSE Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training. I am currently undertaking a Professional Diploma in Wisdom Supervision a Cross-Professional Approach to Reflective Practice.
I work with adults and young people experiencing anxiety, distress, loss, bereavement, depression, self-esteem, suicidal ideation, abuse, trauma, illness, anger, emotional/spiritual issues, gender issues, identity and relationship issues.
I worked as a nurse and advocate, for over thirty years, with children, young people and adults who were diagnosed with life limiting illnesses and learning to live with physical disability and I have observed first-hand the impact this has on everyone involved. I have had the privilege to support individuals and their families find the resilience within to cope with this journey and I believe this has inspired me in the work I do today.
I have worked with groups to facilitate change management and promote professional and personal development for professionals and third level students. I am a sessional counsellor providing therapeutic support to third level students in Trinity College Dublin.
In my work I use a person-centred, integrative, holistic approach underpinned by a pluralistic philosophy. The holistic approach embraces the physical, cognitive, emotional and spiritual characteristics of each person. My pluralistic philosophy supports working collaboratively with each person to identify which therapeutic approaches work best for them and to discover each persons internal and external resources and supports.
If you are in emotional, physical, or spiritual distress, facing a personal crisis, or can no longer find a reason to live. I will work with you therapeutically, in a collaborative way, to empower and support you to discover possibilities for change and to rediscover meaning, identity and purpose for your life.
