Having recovered from an eating disorder myself, and experienced periods of anxiety and depression in my life, I have the unique insight of being a client and therapist. This inspired me to change my career from the food industry, where I had worked for 10 years, to retrain in the field of Counselling and Psychotherapy. Following graduation, I continued with my studies to complete specialist training in the area of eating disorders. I have trained with The National Centre for Eating Disorders in the UK and hold a Diploma in Practitioner Skills for Eating Disorders, and I have also trained in binge eating with Eating Freely (binge eating specialist). I have experience of working with clients who are anorexic, bulimic and who suffer from binge eating disorder and ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive food intake disorder). Prior to working at the Midlands Counselling Clinic, I had my own private practice for 3 years.
I offer you a safe, confidential, empathic and non-judgmental space to talk about what is going on for you. The simple act of talking about your current life challenges allows space for you to reflect. Perhaps you feel overwhelmed and stuck right now? Have you created unhelpful coping mechanisms or behaviours that are keeping you stuck or upset? I know from experience that it’s not just a matter of “pulling yourself together” or “snapping out of it”. By bringing issues into the open, we are shining a light on what’s working for you and what’s not. Creating awareness allows to you make a choice around changing what you can, or living more easily with what you can’t. I will work with you to rediscover the resilient, resourceful person that you are. And more importantly, I will work with you to restore hope, for you to believe that life is not hope-LESS BUT hope-FULL.
Please feel free to give me a call, or drop me an email to arrange an appointment and we can discuss how you are feeling. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you move forward. Take care, Rachel.
